Data Recovery, Dogs, Children and Gravity.

Backing up those irreplaceable photos, home videos and album downloads is a chore. However it is a task that should be given priority, carried out regularly and seen as part of everyday life. After all, what could possibly go wrong with that sparkling new laptop, desktop computer or iPod?

Dogs, Children and Gravity have played a part in reminding some users of just how important it is to back up precious files.

Kingdom Data Recovery Ltd, based in Dalkeith, Midlothian are data recovery specialists who are finding there is an increased need for their services throughout the UK.

Aynsley Watson, a spokesperson for the company said: “Amongst other, more routine jobs, in October alone we have been asked to retrieve data when a hungry dog attempted to eat a pen drive, a laptop was left on a car roof while the owner drove away and there have been several fraught phone calls from fathers whose young children have spilt liquids on laptops by accident. In one instance a three year old decided to clean a laptop using Fairy Liquid.”

Data recovery from Mp3 players, Mobile Phones, Digital Cameras, Home Computers, Laptops and Business Servers are all within the scope of Kingdom Data Recovery.

While soapy laptops and half eaten pen drives may appear rare occurrences, this type of situation and many more besides do happen. So what are the basic steps individuals can take to ensure data is safe?

• Firstly, create and maintain an easy to understand file structure on your PC.

• Backup important documents to DVD, external Hard Drives or any other form of additional, external storage devices.

• Perform a test restore of the data. Preferably to another area of your computer so as not to overwrite the original data.

• If you do not have an external storage device, invest in one sooner rather than later. Additional storage is very affordable these days.

• Create and follow a routine of backing up important files regularly. At the very least backup once a week or when the amount of important data has increased significantly.

• If you experience a problem accessing data on your device take it to a specialist. Attempting to recover the data yourself or letting inexperienced persons attempt data recovery can, in certain circumstances, make it more difficult to retrieve deleted or corrupt information if or when they fail.

• Keep records of all online media purchased such as programs, music, videos and games.

• Check the terms and conditions with your insurance provider relating to the level of cover you have for your virtual purchases.

• Should you find yourself in a situation where you require
data recovery, please visit www.kingdomdatarecovery.co.uk or call us on 0131 208 0008 for assistance.

Kingdom Data Recovery goes on to say: “It’s not only accidents that cause data loss, it must be realised that items like hard drives have a shelf life and do not last forever”.

In this economic climate people are keeping their technology longer, expecting it to do more and filling old hard drives to capacity with downloaded movies and music.

So if you are thinking: “when did I backup my data last?” you should be backing up your data now!
